Over 180 species of birds can be observed in the Mauricie National Park, including gray jays, black-backed woodpeckers, broad-winged hawks, warblers, nuthatches, chickadees and crossbills. Near the Laviolette Bridge, you will see red-throated loons, brants, horned grebes and long-tailed ducks.
Peat bogs and wetlands
Peat bogs, including the one at Lac-à-la-Tortue, are surrounded by “sphagnum” or bog moss, which turns into peat when it decomposes. The floral species that can be found in this area include carex (sedge grass), orchids, heath and black spruce.
